If you’ve ever tried business blogging, it’s quite probable that you’ve heard about the unquestionable king of content management systems - WordPress, which powers over 24% of the web (according to their website: https://wordpress.org/about/features/ ) – that’s quite an outcome! It’s free, available and functional, but the big question remains: is it the best? As true marketing geeks, we simply couldn’t resist the temptation to compare this most commonly used blogging platform with one of its younger competitors – HubSpot, which consistently gains popularity on the market.
Although we have to admit that both systems are really decent marketing tools, we feel that HubSpot has some slight advantages over WordPress, here is why:
- The first difference between them is user-friendliness. HubSpot’s intuitive layout, drag-and-drop system and built-in plugins make it easier to use for the marketers without any coding skills (in case something is still too difficult to handle, they even offer you free support and training). With WordPress, things are getting a little bit more tricky. You have to install it by yourself which means that you need a server and at least some basic knowledge how to launch it
- HubSpot’s blogging platform can be integrated with other marketing tools so we can manage all inbound marketing campaigns from one place. WordPress offers a standard content management system with the wide range of additional plugins. Some of them are free, for some you have to pay, but what is more important, you have to know how to install them.
- HubSpot’s widget creates automatically RSS feed which enables your subscribers to read and manage your content through their RSS reader. In WordPress you need to install a dedicated widget which involves time and some techie knowledge. There is also some risk involved as some of them may be downloaded with viruses.
- Another interesting solution, very helpful for busy marketers, is the ability to set up your posts and schedule them for the future automate publishing. Although both platforms offer this feature, HubSpot’s widget automatically informs your readers about new posts via e-mails and social media channels.
- HubSpot’s platform was originally created for business blogging so it offers a very robust analysis tool, something which WordPress doesn’t have. With HubSpot you can measure everything: inbound links, keywords density, performance of your CTAs or the number of comments generated by each e-mail. Once again it all depends on what you are looking for, but if you are running a blog for business purposes, testing definitely would be one of the crucial features.
Although running a blog based on HubSpot’s CMS seems to be a bit more costly at the beginning, in the overall assessment it’s an investment that quickly pays off, of course as long as you follow their marketing guidelines. To sum up, if you are familiar with programming and do not want to spend money on your blogging platform you can try your chances with WordPress. However, if you are a busy business owner with no IT background or a marketer trying to keep up in the fast-paced marketing world, you should definitely go for HubSpot.
